History of the development of Lac du Cerf

In Québec, the most beautiful natural sites often belong to religious communities. This is a well known fact and has a simple explanation. Around the 1930s, some of the most magnificent lakefront sites – which were the property of the government of Québec – were granted to the clergy and religious communities for religious purposes: establishment of retreat houses, vacation colonies, and so on.

In the Upper Laurentians, the government granted several such properties. Thus the “Pointe des Jésuites”, in Grand Lac Nominingue, houses a retreat and vacation house for the Jesuits. The “Red Pine” on Lac des Écorces, now the Val-Moreau residential development project in Mont-Laurier, was originally a retreat house for the Jesuits and the sisters of Sainte-Croix. The enchanting site on Lac du Cerf was also this type of property.

The Québec government had, in effect, sold lands to the Episcopal Corporation 300 acres in size and on the shores of Petit Lac du Cerf and of Grand Lac du Cerf. The site could not be developed before now because it was used by students for the priesthood, retired clergy, members of organizations such as Scouts, and so on.

Some 60 years later, the Episcopal Corporation returned, to the government and to the municipality of Lac-du-Cerf, about 50 per cent of the acreage it owned to allow for revitalization of the La Biche park. The current promoters acquired an area of about 100 acres to develop vacation properties.

Thus the promoter acquired three sections that are now being developed:

  • • Phase I, called Pointe des Pins-Rouges, is a development adjacent to the Baie des Scout, which is made up of 11 lots;
  • • Phase II, called Domaine Entre-les-Deux-Lacs, is made up of 30 lots;
  • • Phase III, called Boisé du Parc-de-la-Biche, close to the municipal beaches of Parc de la Biche, is made up of 40 lots.

The three prestige developments are adjacent to the town of Lac-du-Cerf. This place, where nature brings together water and forest and magnificent deer live close to the residences, is truly magical.
